I know I’m a little late, but here’s some more info from CeBIT. A short write up on the UMPC device will be up in the next day or two along with a couple more pics from various stands.
As an update from my previous post, here’s a shot of the media device I saw, but driving a 24″ Dell display. The quality was absoloutely amazing! They had a few short clips from the Jay Leno show, as well as a few other bits and pieces, recorded in HD of course, and they were crystal clear. If the interface wasn’t as clunky as it was, I’d probably recommend this as a device. I’m not sure how well it puts out audio as a trade show floor is never the best space to listen to audio quality. I think I’ll be keeping an eye on this device as a possible buy one day, but as I’ve said, the interface needs some improvement before I’d think about buying one.
One stand I breifly visited, which was swarmed with people, was a promotional booth for a new company that is opening its doors in a few weeks time. The shop is named GadgetEmpire, and as you can see from the picture, they’ve got a huge range of Gadgets. They claim to have over 1000 gadgets in 12 different categories. They had a really unusal but interesting keyboard on display which you can see below. I’m not sure what they’re target audiance is, but they seem to cater for everyone from the professional business man, to the gamer, to the gadget rich female.
The CSIRO had a fairly sizeable booth showing alot of their R&D projects. One I really loved was the virtual air hockey, which had no physical puck, just a projection of a board on the table. You played against someone on the other end of the booth whom you could see via a camera link. While it looked a little hard to play, I’m sure it would be alot of fun, especially if you could play air hockey against your friends in another room. As promise, I got a snap of a ‘booth babe’, who obviously weren’t needed at E3! This girl was just 4 of the girls decked out in ATI apparel, and a few other girls we’re around promoting other companies although clothed a little more than the ATI girls.
I’ll post some more CeBIT items soon!
